For couples with children, one of the secrets to being awesome parents is to remember to schedule regular date nights that allow you to focus on one another. It is very easy to become consumed with the needs of our child(ren) and forget that you also have a relationship with your partner to nurture and continue to grow.

My spouse and I love having dates during the Fall. The Fall is such a scenic time of year and you can enjoy the crisp and cool air while doing a fun activity with your partner. In this blog post I would like to share with you some of the fun activities that you can enjoy for a Fall date.

1. Camping

Go outdoors and into the woods and take in the beauty of nature during the Fall. You can spend that time hiking, riding bikes, or simply sitting outdoors admiring nature. Camping can give you both time to unwind, disconnect from the busyness of life, and connect with one another.

2. Go to a farm and explore a corn maze

Several years ago, my spouse and I decided to celebrate the inner child in each of us by spending the day at a local farm and then racing each other through a corn maze. Did we look silly? Perhaps. Did we have fun and release the stress we experience in our day to day life? Definitely. Laughter is good for a relationship and the occasional silly moments can help a relationship to stay youthful and vibrant. So, I encourage you all to find a local corn maze and visit it. You don’t have to race through it like we did but you could make your own memorable daytime or nighttime adventure.

3. Apple Picking

Another great Fall date activity that can be enjoyed as a couple is picking apples at a local farm. Find a nearby orchard and select several of your favorite apples or try a few new ones. Then you can go home and make delicious apple recipes, such as apple pie, together. You may even decide to let your children enjoy your finished product!

4. Pumpkin carving contest

The first year my spouse and I were dating we met up with another couple and each of us carved a pumpkin. At the end of the pumpkin carving we called a person that we all knew and asked her to judge the best pumpkin design. This is a great way to engage in some friendly competition and you will have a nice final product that you can use at home for decoration.

5.  Sightseeing of Fall foliage

Our number one date activity to do in the Fall is to drive up to North Georgia and look at the changing of the leaves. If the weather is cooperative, we may roll down the windows and enjoy the coolness of the wind. Along our drive we may stop and take pictures or stop at antique stores for a little shopping. There is no better way to appreciate Fall than to engage in a little previewing of the leaves in the Fall.

Remember creating great memories as a couple will bond you closer together. It is important for your child(ren) to know that their parents enjoy one another and that they are committed to their relationship. Demonstration of this commitment helps to make your child(ren) feel secure in the family and they can understand that their parents have someone else that matters to them, even more than they do, and that is the other parent. So I challenge you to start planning your Fall date activity!
