I look forward to Working With Your Family.

Money is an emotional topic. For most of us, we spend our money sparingly and when seeking a service, we commonly ask ourselves, “How much will this cost?” “How much is this worth?”

I understand this feeling and I encourage you to read some of the FAQs about fees, methods of payment and my cancellation/ rescheduling policy. Additionally, when you call my office, I can provide you with any specific information you may need about the costs related to your family’s particular situation.

Frequently Asked Questions about Fees and Services:

Do you accept insurance? Or, do you provide a receipt that clients can submit to their insurance company?

Yes, I accept Blue Cross Blue Shield. I accept this insurance plan for evaluations associated with medically driven diagnoses, such as anxiety, depression, ADHD and/or intellectual disabilities.

Please be aware that each insurance plan is unique and that some plans even exclude these diagnoses for evaluation and/or treatment and, therefore, it is important that you allow my office to check your individual insurance plan to ensure coverage. If I do not accept your insurance plan, I am more than happy to provide you with a receipt detailing your services so that you can get reimbursement directly from your insurance after testing is completed.

It is also important to note that not all issues/conditions/problems, which are dealt with, are reimbursed by insurance companies. Please note that most insurance companies do not cover psychoeducational testing or school observations for developmental delays or learning issues, as they deem these services “educational” rather than “medical,” even if the provider is “in-network.”

Often an insurance company will tell a client, “A quote for benefits does not guarantee payment…” This means that clients can be told over the phone that something is covered by their policy. They can be given an authorization number for their claim. And yet, they may still be declined once the insurance company reviews the diagnosis/claim, as is often the case.

Therefore, just because you have been told by an insurance company that psychoeducational testing is covered does not mean that it actually is. As such, I will not submit a claim for it; however, at the end of our work together I am able to provide families with a document known as a “superbill,” which is a receipt that has details about the services and charges. I encourage families to submit this superbill at the end of testing if they believe their insurance will reimburse them.

Please be aware that I do not “back bill” a service, meaning that I do not later submit a claim for a service that was initially paid for out of pocket by the family. I will, however, allow families to follow up with the insurance company to seek any necessary reimbursement.

Additionally, please be aware that insurance companies require that we provide them with a mental health diagnosis in order for you to receive reimbursement and, if your child does not have a diagnosis, it is unethical to bill insurance.

Lastly, please be aware that insurances grant permission for each test that can be administered prior to the start of testing. Therefore, if during the course of the psychological testing process I deem it necessary to conduct additional testing, it may fall outside of what your insurance approved and you may be responsible for that additional cost.

Can we submit to insurance for coaching services?

My work with coaching parents is not coded as a diagnosable mental health condition and, thus, it is not a service covered by insurances. It is unethical to submit a claim with a diagnosis for parent coaching services, which is considered a psychoeducational intervention, in order to bill and seek reimbursement through insurance.

Is there flexibility in the delivery of individual or group coaching services?

Yes! If you live in Georgia, I am able to meet with you through online platforms or in alternative settings outside of my office. Please be aware that when I meet you outside of my office, you will be charged for the travel time required to get to your location and for the time I have to be away from my office due to the travel. However, I want to make myself accessible to families. Additionally, these alternative meeting formats allow you to access services with greater ease and convenience in an already busy and hectic lifestyle.

What if I don’t live in Georgia?

If you are seeking services and support for parent coaching and you live outside of Georgia, then please contact my office at 678-649-1940. We can discuss other options that I have for presenting parents with the necessary skills and knowledge to help improve their family.

Do you travel for speaking engagements?

Yes! I have spoken in other states multiples times and I am willing to travel to speak to groups and organizations in different national and international locations. Please contact my practice at 678-649-1940 or ddixon@parentchildpractice.com to get additional information.

How long does a psychoeducational assessment take?

Psychoeducational evaluations are conducted over approximately four to six meetings. This includes the initial intake appointment, two to four testing appointments, and a final feedback session. The length of a session typically ranges from approximately 2 to 4 hours. For the longer appointments, I provide children with breaks from testing. During the feedback session, I review all of the test results and make recommendations based on the testing. If the evaluation includes a diagnosis, that will be included in the report. Please note that some evaluations require more than six meetings, depending on the attention and concentration of the person being tested and the complexity of the presenting concern.

How much does a psychoeducational evaluation cost?

The cost of a typical psychoeducational assessment ranges from $3,500 to $4,300, with most evaluations pricing at $4100. This includes the initial intake appointment, face to face testing sessions (approximately 2 to 4 sessions), scoring of all testing materials, interpretation of testing, report writing, and the feedback session. Additionally, some families request a school observation prior to conducting testing and that is an additional cost outside of the standard psychoeducational assessment. If you would like a school observation for your child, please let me know when you call my office because you will not have your child attend the initial intake appointment. It is important that your child has not met me prior to the school observation.

Do you conduct other evaluations aside from psychoeducational Testing?

Yes, I also am trained to conduct gifted evaluations, child and adult ADHD assessments for medication management/decision making, private school admissions evaluations, school readiness testing, and psychoeducational testing for post-secondary accommodations.

Do You Provide Testing for ‘High Stakes’ testing and SAT/ACT Accommodations?

Yes, my educational training and professional experiences makes me well-qualified to provide recommendations that can be used by standardized testing companies. The recommendations that I provide for individuals are supported by testing data collected during the assessment. Additionally, the psychoeducational testing battery is carefully selected to ensure that it is addressing the specific concern of the client/family and only instruments that are accepted by the test publisher are used in the evaluation. Additionally, I am open to collaborating with a school’s learning support specialist to ensure that a student’s plan corresponds to the needs of that particular school and to the student’s standardized test taking needs. It is important that a school’s learning support plan has appropriate and correct testing accommodations that can inform eligibility for high stakes testing. Additionally, I will assist families in selecting the appropriate timing for testing to ensure that all accommodations are in place before a student would begin high stakes testing. It is important that families prepare well in advance for testing accommodations as the application process itself may take several months to process. Families are encouraged to remember the following information when planning for high stakes testing accommodations: test results cannot by older than 5 years for a learning disability, 3 years for ADHD, and 1 year for an emotional/medical disability.

What methods of payment do you accept?

I accept cash, checks, credit and debit cards for VISA and Mastercard. I also accept Health Spending Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA). My practice does accept cash; however, I do not keep cash in my office and I cannot provide individual change at appointments.

Do clients pay at the beginning of a session or after the session or after a training has been completed?

When you arrive for the appointment, I will collect payment for the service at the very beginning of that appointment and I will email a password protected receipt.  If I am conducting an off-site service (e.g., school observation, coaching at an alternate location) you will pay for that service in advance over the phone, unless we have previously worked out a special arrangement. If you are booking me as a speaker, I require that my services be paid for in full in advance prior to booking my services, unless you have discussed an alternate arrangement with my practice.

Cancellation Policy

In order to provide the best services I can to all of my clients, I must have a strict cancellation policy. Please help me serve you better by keeping scheduled appointments or canceling at least 24 hours in advance of your appointment time. All appointments must be canceled or rescheduled during the business days of Monday – Friday. Clients will incur a $100 fee for appointments missed and for appointments canceled less than 24 hours in advance. After 30 days, the unpaid balance will be charged to the client’s card on file.
